  • Learn everything you need to know about our new DIGITAL SRB

Learn everything you need to know about our new DIGITAL SRB To All news 10 March 2021 When will the D-SRB be released to me? Since the official release date, we will be generating the D-SRB to members files being processed and to those we have handled since Covid, by reviewing each file individually. How will I know when it is ready for me to download? You will receive an email notification and you will see an orange banner on your documents tab in your PYA profile. Where will I see it? It will be the first line in the documents list, in the documents tab, in your PYA profile. What are the requirements for the D-SRB to be issued successfully? Only PDF type files are accepted; Documents in multiple pages need to be in one file; Different certificates/testimonials need to be separated into different files (one document per file); Upload a passport photo to your profile; The text in the documents must be clear and visible. Failure of complying with the requirements will lead to the documents being declined and your file being put into pending until the issue is solved. What documents will be in the new D-SRB? Any certificates or testimonials that have NOT already been entered into the physical SRB and that have been approved by an SRB Officer. We are not transferring information from the old SRB to the new system. What will happen to the physical SRB? If your SRB is currently stored in our office, you will be contacted by staff to arrange the delivery of your SRB to you. You can accelerate the process by contacting certificates@pya.org directly. If you are in possession of your SRB, you can keep it and use it together with the Digital SRB when necessary. If I already have a physical SRB, will I always need to use both SRB and D-SRB when applying to the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency)? No, you will not. For those members who have not recently applied for a new COC or Revalidation, they might have entries both in the SRB and D-SRB that are relevant to their next application, but once they have been used, all future relevant entries will be in the D-SRB only. How do I apply for an NOE or Revalidation now? All NOE and Revalidation applications need to be sent to the MCA by email as per MIN 655. You need to have your Digital SRB available in your profile before you can apply to the MCA for an NOE, so that you can download it and include it in your email to the MCA. Please do not copy PYA in the emails. If you are applying for your first NOE (first CoC with the MCA) then you need to send your original documents to the MCA by post as well (except the D-SRB of course). If all your required sea time (or part of it) is in a physical SRB, please contact us for a digitally stamped copy of your physical SRB so you can send that by email instead of by post. Is the D-SRB safe? The D-SRB is protected by a digital seal that safeguards the document from changes and contains PYA information so that for whoever receives the document is authentic and valid. Will I have access to the D-SRB even if my membership expires? By GDPR regulation we are allowed to retain copies of your documents on our system for a maximum of 5 years since your membership has expired. If you will require a copy of your D-SRB during that period, we can send you one by email by contacting certificates@pya.org . After the deadline, all your records (the D-SRB as well) will be deleted. We advise you always download a copy of your most recent D-SRB, but you will be notified 30-days before your account and records will be deleted. • Posidonia regulations from Le préfet Maritime de la Méditerranée – July 2023 update

Posidonia regulations from Le préfet Maritime de la Méditerranée – July 2023 update To All news 31 July 2023 The préfet Maritime de la Méditerranée has updated their guidance on anchorage regulations, in line with its strategy to protect maritime ecosystems, including Posidonia. The latest regulations address anchorage of 24+ meter LOA vessels in Western Corsica (Arrêté # 168/2023) and in the Bay of Calvi (Arrêté # 189/2023). Areas of interest include: Considering that the action of anchoring and stopping French and foreign vessels in the French internal and territorial waters of the Mediterranean is a matter for the navigation police and public order at sea - which is the responsibility of the Maritime Prefect. Anchoring or stopping is the responsibility of the ship's captain, the skipper, or any person in charge or in control of the vessel. The rules governing the safe passage of foreign vessels in French territorial waters defined by the Préfet Maritime. France's obligations to preserve the good ecological status of its waters. Considering the scientific studies communicated to the Préfet Maritime showing the worsening degradation of Posidonia meadows linked to the anchoring of large vessels (over 24 meters in length overall). Considering the need to regulate the anchoring and stopping of vessels with French or foreign flags in French inland and territorial Mediterranean waters, in order to defend the sovereign rights and interests of the Nation, maintain public order, safeguard people and property, and protect the environment. Athens already has representatives for a number of international registries, so we feel that the MCA will make a great contribution by adding to the available choice in Greece.' The new venture, which will see the launch of a sales office in Piraeus, Greece – a country with a rich Maritime heritage – will allow UKSR to build valuable long-term partnerships with local ship owners as well as strengthen the presence of the Flag in the Greek shipping industry. Late last year, UKSR launched a brand-new operating model with a focus on world-class customer service and commitment to expand its operations outside of the UK. With the Flag’s renewed focus on partnership working and international representation, Katy Ware, Director of UK Maritime Services at the MCA, said connecting with Greek Ship owners locally was a top priority. “We recognise the importance and influence of Greek shipping owners and believe as a flag we can add real value to their operations. “There is a long history of Anglo-Greek collaboration in the maritime industry and that’s why we’ve chosen Greece as the location for our first overseas sales hub.” Maritime Minister Kelly Tolhurst said: “For centuries, the UK flag has provided protection, identity and kinship to all bearers across the seas. “This is now more important than ever, with the UK leading the repatriation of seafarers around the world through Covid-19. “This new venture will enhance the flag’s appeal and extend our ability to demonstrate how the UK can benefit shipping companies.” Currently, around 30 per cent of the world's shipping companies are Greek-owned and have strong ties with Piraeus. The UKSR have appointed Andriani Vodena, a sales executive with an extensive background in shipping, to oversee UKSR’s flag services on the ground in Piraeus. She will take an active lead on meeting with new and existing customers, giving the Greek and Cypriot market dedicated support and information on the advantages of the UK Flag. Andriani previously worked for Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA Europe) and has vast amounts of experience communicating closely with ship owners, Port Authorities and Government Bodies, “I am proud and delighted to serve as the first UKSR Sales Executive in Greece and I look forward to contributing to the UK Ship Register’s mission to become the world’s best-performing international flag,” Andriani said. “I am confident that the Greek Shipping Community will embrace the UK Flag and its world-class standards.” The exact timing of the opening of the sales office will be subject to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. • The PYA joins the CLEAR OCEAN PACT

The PYA joins the CLEAR OCEAN PACT To All news 25 April 2019 Clear Ocean Pact isa not-for-profit initiative, driven by a single mission, to reduce the dependency on single-use plastic in the superyacht industry for the long-term benefit of our atmosphere and oceans. The PYA joins a growing community of superyacht owners, yachting organizations and businesses in encouraging their members to commit to five common goals in order to reduce their use of plastics. These goals are: To avoid any use of plastic bottled drinking water onboard. To filter and safely dispose of all washing machine microplastic waste.  To eliminate the use of all single-use plastic items with readily available alternatives, starting with the items due to be banned by the EU in 2021. (Plastic cotton buds, cutlery, plates, straws, drink-stirrers and balloon sticks) To reduce the use of single-use plastic toiletries onboard. To actively source provisions with low single-use plastic footprint packaging. COP also works to establish partnerships with yachting businesses, sustainable companies and non-profit organisations to share information about viable alternatives, and to inspire other industries to take a similar approach to their single-use plastic consumption. The PYA is committed to promoting environmentalism and social responsibility in yachting.  Indeed, it first highlighted these important issues at its ‘Seachanges’ event in September during the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show. We are delighted to support the initiative of the Clear Ocean Pact and will encourage our members to pledge their support to allow continued enjoyment of clean and protected oceans for years to come. Launched in November 2018 , Clear Ocean Pact is a not-for-profit initiative driven by a single mission to reduce the dependency on single-use plastic items in the superyacht industry for the long-term benefit of our oceans. It aims to raise awareness, explore innovative solutions to stop microplastic waste and provide viable alternatives to be used in yacht operations around the globe. • PYA Crew Contracts Survey Report 2020

PYA Crew Contracts Survey Report 2020 To All news 8 October 2020 In 2019, the PYA was approached by more than 135 members of crew requesting urgent advice from the PYA Members’ Assistance Team, with numbers increasing in 2020. Many of the issues were contract-related or due to the crew member not having a contract at all, particularly those working on private yachts. Due to the prevalence of these issues, we decided to conduct a survey and ask crew a range of questions to get a better understanding of how widespread the problems are within the industry, the types of contracts being issued, the quality of those contracts and the conditions under which they had been provided. Having no contract at all, or only an inadequate one, can result in misunderstandings on both sides. Sometimes crew don’t know what is expected of them or in some cases may end up being treated unfairly by their employers. The PYA’s aim is to promote the use of fair and equitable contracts which are adhered to, thus ensuring protection for both parties.
