A Hospitality Industry Standard
Created by yacht professionals for professionals of the yachting industry
As the front line for owners and guests, it is fundamental that Interior Crew have the level of in-depth knowledge, skill and confidence that is sufficient to offer the high end service and hospitality required on-board. As with the Deck and Engineering departments, Interior crew can now benefit from a clearly defined training route, leading to an industry recognised Certificate of Competence. GUEST is the only PYA recognised Interior Training Programme.
The GUEST program was developed by a large group of industry professionals lead by the PYA, after consultation with the yachting sector to establish a career path for Interior crew, and creates an industry standard of Guidelines for Unified Excellence in Service Training (GUEST©). This has now unified training standards while ensuring a comprehensive and bespoke career structure for those working in Superyacht interior departments. GUEST has now been moved under the administration (w.e.f. January 2019) of IAMI who also manage deck and engineering certification and examination in large commercial yachts. Training Providers and Accreditation
GUEST courses are modular in structure and the training objectives for each individual module on the syllabus are defined in the GUEST Guidelines. These Guidelines are a benchmark allowing each Training Provider to adapt their own courses to include the minimum standards of training expected by the yachting industry. This ensures a unified, comprehensive & bespoke training for each student. Individual Training Providers retain the right and freedom to design and deliver their own style and brand courses that include these minimum standards. Any Training Provider that meets the requirements will be able to apply for accreditation to issue GUEST endorsed certificates. Through audits, IAMI will monitor the training being delivered to ensure that what is being taught follows the GUEST Guidelines.

To ensure that that GUEST reflects what happens in practice and, most importantly, maintains its focus on what owners and guests really desire, although no longer an in house program, the PYA remains is committed to continuously developing this scheme. These guidelines will therefore be under constant review, and will inevitably change and evolve to suit the needs of the ever-changing industry.
GUEST Certificate of Competency (CoC)
The GUEST Program provides experienced Interior Crew with the opportunity to apply for direct entry to a CoC through a letter of assessment. For individuals who wish to participate in this scheme, and who already have previous experience and have completed some training, then, once verified, IAMI will provide a GUEST Certificate of Competence, delivered on a case-by-case basis.
