Educational events

The PYA hosts various educational and informative events during the course of the year, providing the latest information and addressing the hottest topics.

The Sea Changes Forum at the Monaco Yacht Show has been a useful seminar to update members and professional partners with all the latest changes in certification, regulation and training. Speakers usually include senior representatives from the UK MCA (Red Group) RYA and PYA as well as yacht training providers.  Sea Changes Provides an annual up-to-date information exchange affecting crew regulation within the yachting sector.  It also platforms key note speakers on topical issues such as environmental protection (clean seas), sexual harassment, cyber security, seafarers rights (MLC) and related issues.  A current area of concern is the accepted abuse by some owners and operators of working time directives in large commercial yachting.

Sea Changes will next be staged not at MYS 2019 but in Palma in 2020.  Further information to follow.   (July 2019)

At the Monaco Yacht Show and other venues, the PYA and it’s Partners run Continuing Professional Development workshops for all departments of crew, enabling attendees to learn new skills or develop their knowledge for free.  The PYA has previously teamed up with ACREW, who also run Continuing Professional Development Events throughout the year. The PYA now endorses some of the content on offer, meaning that the Crew can have their attendance at these events stamped into their PYA Crew Work Book, which can be shown to employers as evidence of them having taken the time to invest in their own professional development.
