The Australian wildfires are having a devastating effect on the country, with Victoria and New South Wales already having declared a state of emergency. The fires have burnt over 18 million acres of bushland and, according to a biodiversity expert count, killed 1 billion animals.
After hearing that wildlife centres are struggling to get enough medical supplies to help the number of injured animals, the crew from M/Y Moon Sand, including fellow PYA member and Engineer, Omar Rashed, decided to call on the yachting community in the French Riviera to donate unused medical supplies, which they will send over to Australia next week.
According to their Chief Officer, Olivia Stead, ‘Our crew have been in touch with one of the main medical hubs in Australia which will receive the donations and dispatch them accordingly. The items we have already gathered range from bone injection guns and fluids to burn dressings and kids plasters.’
So far, they’ve had a huge response from the yachting community - including multiple large companies and well-known yachts which have all donated old or expired goods.
They are planning on shipping 2-3 large crates by the end of next week, so please get in touch with Olivia to make your donation.
