Member update from PYA CEO

UPDATE FROM OUR CEO - May 2020

Dear Member,

Since the 17th March, the PYA Team has been working ‘out of office’ and quite effectively utilising on line and digital communications with both its members and regulators for processing individual professional matters e.g sea service. The PYA team has been very active during the lockdown creating newsletters, holding webinars and providing support and services on line and delivering specific telephone support to members.

Fortunately, we updated our office systems software last year to allow access remotely to PYA servers and files. So the main friction from the lock down in France has been the effect in our inability to provide face to face services and to operate the paper side of the technical support service e.g. completing entries in members Service Record Books.

Sea service verification has continued and has by necessity moved over to a paperless process with agreement between PYA and the Red Ensign Group of flag authorities (MCA). Looking ahead, we are pressing to retain this functionality post-Covid so that we move away from paper SRBs into a permanent digital process for verifying and even recording sea service.
