Amendments to MLC

18 January 2017

The first amendments to MLC, 2016, are about to be implemented, providing guarantees of seafarer financial protection in particular areas of contractual rights and dues. 

As from 18th January 2017, all MLC compliant vessels must display the following certificates:


  1. Confirmation from an insurer or other financial security entity that insurance or other coverage is in place to cover the costs of crew repatriation, and up to 4 months wages and other entitlements, consequent upon abandonment;

  2. Confirmation of similar coverage for claims arising from death or personal injury.
