Steve Thomas has been sailing since childhood; first in dinghies and then in offshore yachts. He obtained his first skippers qualification at the age of 16 and was a Yacht master at 18.
After 6 years in the British Army, including a period as an Instructor at the Sail Training Centre in Kiel, Steve took up the post of Operations Manager at Yachtours (now part of the Sunsail group) and, in 1981, established the first bareboat and flotilla charter operation in Turkey. In 1984 he took command of “Golden Horizon” and spent the whole of his career since in command of various large yachts both power and sail. He has cruised throughout the world and for the last 12 years has been in command of “Fadlallah”, homeported in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He holds a MCA Master Yachts <3000gt certificate.
Steve joined the PYA Council in 2001 and, with his background in Sail Training, takes a keen interest in manning and training issues that come before council. In addition he acts as the administrator for the PYA Council Forum.
