Joey Meen was born in London and soon after moved to Columbia, Mexico and then Malaysia, before returning to the UK, Plymouth, when she was 13. Joey dedicated her teenage years to sports, including windsurfing, sailing, competitive waterpolo and swimming. She then worked at various jobs, mainly to support her love of travel and a new found mortgage; secretarial, computer programming, summer activity camps for kids and teaching aerobics.
By 1992, Joey was part of a team racing a Sigma 38, in local events and cross channel races, and eventually convinced Steve Emerson to offer her the position as receptionist with Plymouth Sailing School. She learned quickly and took over the running of the RYA school when Steve and his family moved to France a few years later. During the years, she has completed various courses from Day Skipper, STCW basic training, Yachtmaster and even became a Personal Watercraft Instructor.
She moved to Antibes in 2001, and worked for Freedom Yachting for 3 years before starting her own Yacht Crew Career & Training Consultancy business “Askjoey”.
