Ian Soutar

A qualified captain on yachts, both power and sail with considerable experience of the Mediterranean and the West Indies. Based in the South of France for more than thirty years Ian has been with the same owners on Clarity for the past nine years, initially overseeing the construction of the yacht in Turkey and as Captain since her launch in 2003.

His career in yachting started in Malta in 1970 on a Baltic trader yacht called Brigantine Dana as an inexperienced deck hand. After three Atlantic crossings on sailing yachts and one on a motor yacht (before the days of GPS) he settled on the Cote d’Azur. Since 1975 he has been based here and helped set up the PYA in 1991. He was the first editor of the PYA News and organized the first four Christmas Dinner Dances. Ian is married and has four children, two of whom work on yachts.
