Graham St George

I started sailing dinghies at 12, then in the School CCF Naval Section at 13, and joined the RNR Thames Division as Junior Seaman at 16 1/2 – (marched in Churchill’s Funeral). After BRNC Dartmouth, as an Officer Cadet, I too a 5 year Short Service Commission and did general sea service as Seaman and Navigating Officer, mainly on minesweepers, in the South China Sea and Far East, before being sent to Iceland, on frigates, to cool off!

I joined “Mathilda”, a 40 metre motor yacht, based in Monaco, as Bosun/Navigator in 1970. It was a summer holiday job, or so I thought, but 8 years later I had my first skipper’s job and then went engineering, “ M.Y. Belle Aire” till 1983.

My interests include botany, antiques, French popular music since 1950, restoration of classic cars and travel to tropical climes! Yachting as a profession? Highly recommended if you get it right!
