PYA Notices

PYA Holidays

The PYA office will be closed from 23rd December until 5th January. We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Look out in for changes in the New Year. Due to increased workload we are restructuring the office. There will be new email addresses and more phone lines to make communications more efficient and we have Severine Degardin joining us as a third member of staff. Her prime duties will be looking after the membership.

Members will be sent full details in the next newsletter.

PYA News 16

The latest annual edition of the PYA News is now out. This will be mailed out to members in the autumn and distributed to key yachting outlets throughout the year. To keep our distributions costs to a minimum, we appeal to any yachts that are leaving France to go to any destination but especially Palma, Florida and the Caribbean who might be able to help by taking some boxes onboard.

Ring Bridget on 04 93 34 91 16 She is waiting to hear from you!

Captain’s wine and food work shop

The PYA invites their members to a wine and food work shop to be given by Louise Sydbeck of Riviera Yacht Support. This will be an interesting and fun work shop which will last about 2 hours planned for the winter (exact date to be decided).
If interested please contact the PYA office – more details will be sent out when finalised.

    Dressing Ship

Like dressing up, there is much pleasure and pride to be derived from dressing the yacht overall with the set of 40 flags usually carried (26 alphabet, 10 numeral pennants, 3 substitutes and the code/answer pennant). To deal with the widespread uncertainty about the order of flags on the dressing line, the following is recommended to PYA members, whose vessels will all look equally professional.

    From the stem (not the stem as the Reeds almanac typist wrote never having heard of a stem except as part of a flower, thus confusing generations of sailors!), the order should be E Q 3 G 8 Z 4W 6 P 1 | Answer T Y B X 1sub H 3sub D F 2sub U A O M R 2 J 0 N 9 K 7 V 5 L C S.
